Herb Jackson Jr one pager
“I had the realization I wanted to be an actor at 37,000 feet,” says Herb Jackson Jr. “I was sitting in the captain’s seat, the captain of a major airline. And I looked around and thought wow, I made it. This is my childhood dream. Then another thought came to me ‘what else is there? Is this it? What are you going to do with your life?”
Jackson’s father is a lawyer, his brother a computer software engineer. Neither tickled his fancy, unable to satisfy his creative urge. Their technical nature didn’t appeal to him. He wanted something more bold.
Three months later, he saw a sign - literally - and decided to take it. The John Casablancas School of Acting and Modeling was calling him. And he answered. Inspired by some of his favorite performances - Eddie Murphy in the trio of Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places and 48 Hours, as well as Nick Nolte in North Dallas 40, and Al Pacino as Tony Montana in Scarface - he decided to take a chance.
“My ultimate goal in acting is just to see how good I can possibly be and to be recognized by my industry peers,” Jackson says. His passion transcends medium, as he’s interested in roles on television, in film and in theater. The only qualification, he says, is that the role needs to feel right for him, and that the team needs to be a cohesive unit working toward putting forth the best piece of work possible.
Through projects in front of and behind the screen, Herb has developed his craft as a producer and as an actor, working on short films like Angel Fleet, Aguska, and The Last Butterflies. Each production has won several awards, offering Herb valuable lessons about the industry, about performance art, about producing and directing films, and about interactions with other industry professionals.
“Working on Angel Fleet was an exhilarating experience,” says Jackson, who notes that it was particularly meaningful because of its connection to aviation. “ I was absolutely thrilled with the talent and crew; their worldwide recognition is well-deserved.”
Herb channels the passion and drive he honed as a pilot in his acting roles, too. He’s unwaveringly committed to every role he takes on, both in front of the screen and behind it. And, of course, he’s always looking for the next project that lights his internal fire.
